The best way to get to San Vito really depends on your travel itenerary. Our recommendation is that you give Max a call for help with planning.
If you’re staying at our recommended hotel (Hotel Garden), you must arrive and check in on Saturday August 30th.
If you’re planning a vacation around the wedding, it’s better to take it before the wedding. While you can fly into Pescara which is the closest airport to Max’s town, this is not the cheapest option. However, there are some bargain flights from certain European cities that fly into Pescara and those flights are only on certain days of the week.
By Car
San Vito is one of the exits of A14 – the main highway that runs through the Italian Adriatic coast. Reference distances (driving at somewhat speed limits):
- 2.5hrs from Rome (avoid rush-hour)
- 5 hrs from Venice
- 5 hrs from Florence
Official speed limit in Italy is about 80mph (130km/h), but it fairly safe to usually drive a little faster (90/100mph).
By Train
Train is one of the best ways to tour Italy for several reasons: (1) it’s cheap (2) train stations are always in the center of downtowns (3) there are lots of trains daily (4) it’s faster to get around (5) you avoid Italian city traffic and parking.
The train company has a very good site: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html. The only caveat is that we’d not recommend taking the train from Rome to San Vito. It’s actually faster to take the bus (there are three direct daily buses between Rome and San Vito).
By Air
The closest airport is Pescara. It’s not a tier-1 airport, but it does provide good connections through cheap airlines. You can check flights destination and timetables here: http://www.abruzzo-airport.it/eng/orariovoli.php
If you are flying to Pescara, it’s only a 20 minute drive to San Vito – just give us your itenerary beforehand and we can pick you up.
The least expensive way to get to Italy is to fly into Rome. You can travel around prior to coming to our wedding but if you decide to come directly, it’s about a 2.5 hr drive to Max’s town, assuming no traffic. With traffic, it could be a very long drive!
By Bus
There is a great bus service between Rome and Lanciano. Remember that when getting tix you should ask for “Lanciano casello autostrada”. It means that you’ll get off right at the highway exit, which is pretty much in San Vito.
Here’s the schedule (D stands for “Sunday”).

Hi Max,
Which bus company do you recommend from Roma?

Hi Emilyn,
I’d definitely recommend Di Fonzo Linee (http://www.bus.it/difonzo).
There are lots of daily busses from the “Tiburtina Station” (important hub in Rome).
You can buy the tix online from here: http://www.bus.it/difonzo/ticket.htm
A roundtrip (Roma-Lanciano) is about 30 euros. There is actually a stop right off the highway, very close to my parents house

Hey Max- If we want to spend the week after the wedding in Italy can you recomend a place or two that are not going to be packed with people? We were thinking about Cinque Terre but read that it will be high season and it might mean that there will be no place to stay.
Thanks! Ryan, Jen and Jaden

Hi Ryan,
it depends on whether you want to spend time at the beach or just hanging in Italy.
I’d suggest to get a strategic location around Siena (check this out: http://www.monasterosansilvestro.it/index.htm). You can visit the wine country, you are an hour from Rome and one from Florence. You’re also close to Perugia/Assisi.
You can just drive there after the wedding (about four hours).
We can talk more about it!
