San Vito Chietino is a town in the Province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region of Italy, better known as the town of Gabriele D’Annunzio, famous poet who lived in the 1900. San Vito is known for its amazing views and the charm of its coastline, full of many hidden spots and mysteries. It is also appreciated for the diverseness of its landscape, for the clear water of its beaches, for the fruits of its countryside and sea. People come here for its healthy air, the mild weather and for its seafood, which is celebrated in books, guides and articles in Italian and foreign magazines.
Where is it?
Pictures
San Vito sits at about 300 feet at the top of the hill. The view from the “colle” (viewpoint) is amazing. The colle is the very eastern tip of the hill – the picture if you scroll to the top of this web page in our header is taken from there. See more on flickr: San Vito Chietino slideshow
The marina is a big destination during the hot summers. During the day you can relax on the beach, get a slice of pizza or gelato. In the evenings you can just stroll in the “porto” (the old dock) and grab a drink at a local bar. More on flickr. Some of the nicer beaches are actually not in the marina, but just a few mins drive south (one of the most popular ones is just 3 minutes drive).
You’ll also see the Trabocchi, which are old structures that the ancestors used for fishing. Nowadays some of them are actually restaurants.
